I won’t lie to you guys, I’m not a big podcast listener.  However, I wish I were, and I’d especially love to start listening to songwriting or music business podcasts! What better way to learn about the industry than listening to a pro talk about their experiences? Today, I’ve got 5 Songwriting podcasts for you (and me) to check out in the month of November!

  1. And the Writer Is…

This is a podcast that I HAVE in fact listened to before, and I love it! Ross Golan interviews songwriters of all genres ranging from Lori McKenna and Ben Platt to Finneas and Nick Jonas.  He has interviewed an amazing range of prolific songwriters, and he talks with each of them about their careers, their hits, and how the songs came to be.  There are 100+ episodes of this podcast that you can check out on Apple Podcasts. Follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for updates, and click here to check out their website!

  1. Song Craft: Spotlight on Songwriters

Song Craft is a podcast put out by the American Songwriter podcast network.  On their website, they describe the show as “in-depth conversations with and about the creators of lyrics and music that stand the test of time.”  Hosts Scott Bomar & Paul Duncan have episodes with hit songwriters such as Steve Earle, Loretta Lynn, Shane McAnally, Vince Gill, and SO many others! They also have all of the social medias (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter) that you can follow for episode updates; this podcast is bi-weekly.  For more info, click here!

  1. The DIY Musician – CD Baby

Host Kevin Breuner and Assistant Chris Robley run the DIY Musician Podcast released by popular music distributor CD Baby.  This podcast is specifically to help independent musicians learn their way through this crazy business.  There are hundreds of episodes in their archive that you can check out; some interesting titles include “How Artists Make Money from Sync Licensing,” “Creating Videos for 2020 and Beyond,” and “Building a Story into Your Marketing Plan.” This podcast is available to listen to on Apple Podcasts.  For more info on the podcast and its episode library, click here!

  1. The Working Songwriter

Joe Pug interviews today’s upcoming and hit songwriters on this podcast.  A writer and musician himself, Pug has interviewed everyone from Nicole Atkins, and Todd Snider, to Shane McAnally, and Lee Ann Womack.  This podcast can be streamed on iTunes, Pocketcast, Soundcloud, and Stitcher.  Click here for more info!

  1. Making It in The Music Industry

Muscle Shoals Song Rooms founder Lillian Glanton has just recently started her own podcast to teach songwriters how to “Make It” in this crazy industry! It’s available to stream on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and iHeart Radio.  You can follow @makingitmusicpodcast on Instagram for further updates.  The first episode aired on Thursday, November 5th, 2020 and featured Rick Barker, former manager of Taylor Swift!
